Cleco Is For Sale, No Immediate Rate Increases Will Result

A spokesperson for Cleco is confirming that the utility company is for sale.

Cleco serves almost 300,000 customers in 24 parishes, including St. Tammany, Washington and Tangipahoa.

District 3 Public Service Commissioner Davante Lewis says the bidding process may take five or six months. After that, it may take the Commission another year to approve the selected buyer.

Customers' rates won't go up until it's time for the new owner's rate case or rate renewal, to be filed with the Commission.
