Horse racing will continue at Fair Grounds Race Course in New Orleans after Churchill Downs reached a deal with Louisiana horsemen.
Churchill threatened to give up its racing license after a state Supreme Court ruling prohibited the use of historical horse racing slot machines without voter approval. Churchill says the ruling resulted in the loss of nearly half of the Fair Grounds' revenue from off-track betting.
Pending approval of the Louisiana Racing Commission in a meeting next week, the new deal means the traditional winter meet will hold live racing from late November through March.
