The state Department of Transportation and Development says progress is being made to reopen some closed bridges in Terrebonne Parish.

Local officials declared a state of emergency two weeks ago, when seven bridges were out of service because of damage or repairs. On Monday, the number rose to eight when the Bayou Dularge drawbridge failed.

The emergency declaration got the attention of the state Transportation Department, the governor's office, and federal agencies.

Five of the bridges are expected to reopen by the end of 2025.
