Inshore shrimping season is reportedly off to a strong start in Louisiana.

The season opened on Monday of this week.

Veteran shrimpers say the shrimp are bigger and more plentiful than last year. Early season shrimp tend to be bigger than the ones that will be caught in October and November.

The current crop are said to be the shrimp you put in the freezer and keep for the holidays.

Prices are slightly higher than last year, which helps local commercial shrimpers, who have been clobbered by cheap imported shrimp in recent years.
