The mother of a 12-year-old boy recently killed by an alligator is in custody and facing charges in connection with his death.
New Orleans police arrested Hilda Vasquez on Sunday for second-degree cruelty to juveniles and negligent homicide.
Bryan Vasquez went missing last month, and his body was found nearly two weeks later. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office said Bryan drowned after suffering blunt force injuries from an alligator attack.
Police say Bryan was removed from the home as a baby after suffering serious injuries, but the Louisiana Department of Children & Family Services later returned him.
