The Clerk of Criminal Court says it may cost more than $1 million to restore criminal court records that ended up in a landfill last month.

Louisiana State Police are investigating how the documents stored in Public Works trailers were dumped in a Gentilly landfill.

Clerk of Criminal Court Darren Lombard says the discarded documents are being restored, which is a time-consuming and expensive process.

After the restoration is finished, the documents will be saved in digital form.
