Gov. Jeff Landry is criticizing a decision by Loyola University to deny official recognition to a proposed chapter of Turning Point USA.

Several Loyola students unsuccessfully petitioned the Student Government Association to recognize a chapter of the conservative organization on campus.

Turning Point USA has been growing rapidly nationwide ever since last month's assassination of its co-founder, Charlie Kirk.

A spokesperson for Turning Point USA at Loyola says they plan to appeal the Student Government Association's decision.

In southwest Louisiana, there's now a Turning Point USA chapter on the McNeese State University campus.

Kayden Dailey, vice president of the new chapter, says Kirk's assassination motivated him to start the local outlet of the conservative organization.

Dailey says the chapter plans to bring guest speakers who are approved by the national organization to campus.

Their first on-campus meeting will be a recruitment event next Thursday.
