An injured bald eagle will be released into the wild after recovering from surgery at the LSU Veterinary School of Medicine.

The eagle was brought in from Bayou Gauche last Friday with a leg injury, possibly caused by a shock at a nearby power plant.

Veterinarians at the Wildlife Hospital of Louisiana operated on the eagle's lower leg on Tuesday afternoon.

After the eight-pound bird recovers, he'll be released where he was found. Bald eagles mate for life, and he may have a mate in the area.
