The fiscal 2026 city budget has the approval of the New Orleans City Council, over the objections of lame duck Mayor LaToya Cantrell.
Council members met Monday's deadline for passing next year's budget.
Cantrell claimed they hadn't done their due diligence in trying to deal with next year's projected $226 million deficit.
But Mayor-elect Helena Moreno said their budget, which includes furloughs for hundreds of city employees, had been vetted by auditors.
Cantrell's proposed spending plan called for six new taxes.
