New Orleans is asking the federal government to upgrade its security rating for New Year's Eve and the Sugar Bowl this year.
City Homeland Security Director Collin Arnold made the request on Friday. Arnold says the events have a SEAR-3 federal security rating, but a SEAR-1 or SEAR-2 would be more like it, since they would bring more federal law enforcement resources to town.
He says about 80 people met at Gallier Hall on Friday to discuss how to protect New Orleans during the holiday events.
