Mayor Calls For Volunteers In N.O. East

Mayor Mitch Landrieu is calling on volunteers to come to tornado devastated neighborhoods of New Orleans East to help homeowners with their recovery efforts.

"There was a time when I said do not come out to New Orleans East and I said I was going to issue a clarion call for all volunteers to come out and help.  I'm doing that now," Landrieu said on Sunday.

Governor John Bel Edwards also urged those who do not live in the affected areas to pitch in.

Landrieu and Edwards rendered personal assistance Sunday in the 4600 block of Sandalwood Street as they helped removed debris.

Several groups, including the City Church of New Orleans, the Household of Faith, the United Way and HandsOn New Orleans will be hosting volunteer events.
