Zulu Sends Message With Parade

The Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club is sending a message to viewers of its parade this year; "Stop the Violence."

The theme was suggested by Zulu President, Naaman Stewart, who says several members of the organization have lost relatives to violence in the city in recent years.

The message will appear on cups and beads thrown at the parade and on some hand-painted coconuts.

Stewart says the club is concerned about what he has termed an "epidemic" of violence, "primarily in the African-American community."

Stewart also hopes the presence of Pelicans' All-Stars Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins will serve as an inspiration to young parade spectators.

"We're hoping the kids will see two positive young men doing great things," he said.

Davis and Cousins are riding as honorary grand marshals.
