President Trump has received positive reviews, even from some media critics, for his address to a joint session of Congress.
David Axelrod, the chief strategist for Barack Obama's presidential campaigns, said he expects the president to get a bump in the polls from his address.
MSNBC's Rachel Maddow said she believes the speech will be "very well-received."
CNN political commentator Van Jones said the moment when the President addressed Carryn Owens, the widow of slain US Navy SEAL William "Ryan" Owens, was a "crucial" one. Jones said it was the moment "became President."
House Whip Steve Scalise said Mr. Trump "laid out an optimistic vision for America and a plan to get the country back on track."
Senator John Kennedy tweeted, "The American dream is alive," while Senator Bill Cassidy said "President Trump has laid out a series of goals that will get our economy, and our country, moving in the right direction."
Republican Congressman Ralph Abraham termed the address "bold" and "inspirational."
A CNN-ORC poll says 57% of those who watched it said they had a very positive reaction to the President's speech. Nearly seven-in-ten said Trump's proposed policies would move the country in the right direction, and about two-thirds said the President has the right priorities for the country. Those who saw the address gave Trump his highest marks for his proposed policies on the economy and against terrorism.
