N.O. Officials Hail Successful Mardi Gras

Mayor Mitch Landrieu and NOPD Superintendent Michael Harrison have hailed the workers involved in the staging of Mardi Gras.

With the exception of the crash on the Endymion Parade route at Carrollton and Orleans Avenues that injured 32 persons, the Mayor says it was a successful season for the city.

"In excess of 3,000 people have done an extraordinary job," the Mayor said as he joined the police chief at the conclusion of Mardi Gras just after midnight on Bourbon Street.

"It was led by our law enforcement and our first responders and I'm very pleased," Landrieu said. "I also want to thank the public for their cooperation and their work."

Superintendent Harrison said the crowds on Tuesday were the largest he had ever seen.

"The citizens really stepped up and did their part," the chief said.  "Everybody got along.  It was a beautiful Mardi Gras."
