Pedestrian struck and killed in River Ridge

A 58-year-old man was struck and killed Wednesday evening as he attempted to cross Jefferson Highway, according to Louisiana State Police. 

Police say around 6 p.m., a 2016 Toyota Camry, driven by 32-year-old Chantell Lacava of Kenner, was traveling in the right lane approaching a green light at the intersection of Orchard Road. 

William Rouse was standing in the median waiting to cross the eastbound lanes. He then began to run south across the eastbound lanes and was struck by the Toyota in the right lane. Rouse was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police say Impairment and speed are not considered factors in the crash. 

Lacava submitted to a breath test and no alcohol was found in her system.  No charges have been filed at this time and the crash remains under investigation.
