NOPD Makes 373 Arrests During Carnival Season

The NOPD made a total of 373 arrests citywide and confiscated 39 guns over the 12 day Carnival season.

In the NOPD's Eighth District alone, which includes the French Quarter, Marigny and Central Business District, officers made 32 gun arrests. Officers also found and confiscated two additional guns on the street. 

Eighth District officers responded to 250 calls of service and made 289 arrests this year, compared to 275 arrests last year.

"The efforts of the officers assigned to the Eighth District in identifying and arresting people who chose to bring illegal guns to the French Quarter and Downtown area, were a large part of our success," said District Commander Nicholas Gernon.

The NOPD was joined by 165 Louisiana State Police Troopers, along with members of agencies including the FBI,, U.S. Marshals Service, St. Bernard Sheriff, St. John the Baptist Sheriff, Kenner Police Department, Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office, Tulane University Police, LA Probation and Parole, and Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.
