Three persons were killed and another was wounded early Friday in a shooting incident at a home in the 4200 block of Touro Street in Gentilly.
The victims were found inside the house by officers who had responded to a call from a 9-1-1 dispatcher. The three who were fatally wounded were dead at the scene. There was no immediate word on the extent of the injuries suffered by the person who was wounded.
A police dispatcher reported that the call came from a "child" who said his mother and brothers had been shot. The NOPD did not confirm that report.
Police Superintendent Micheal Harrison provided few details in a briefing he conducted for reporters shortly before 7 a.m. He declined to provide information on the ages or genders of the victims but he described the scene as "horrific."
"Immediately, our team got here, attempted to find survivors, called for back-up," the chief said.
Harrison appealed for help from the public.
"Please call Crimestoppers (822-1111) - please call homicide - we can use any information about anything you know about this incident, this house, about anything you think you might know," Harrison said.
