Police: Woman struck officer in the mouth and led him on a police chase

Kenner Police officers arrested Kimberly Tonquinto and Eric Carrillo after what authorities say was a shoplifting incident.

It happened Sunday, March 12 at 7:01 p.m. at the Walmart located at 8912 Veterans Boulevard.

Police say an officer working a security detail at the store attempted to stop Tonquinto in reference to a shoplifting incident. While trying to detain her, the two struggled and the officer was struck in the mouth. Police say she ran away and jumped into an awaiting blue GMC Yukon, that was in the parking lot.

Kenner Police chased the Yukon that went eastbound into the 8800 block of Veterans Boulevard, southbound on David Drive, then westbound on West Napoleon Avenue, in Metairie. The Yukon was eventually stopped in the 8900 block of West Napoleon Avenue, where both was taken into custody.   

Officers say the driver, Eric Carrillo of St. Rose, had used a bag to partially cover the license plate.

Carrillo is booked with crimes of flight from an officer, theft, no driver's license, and improper display of a license plate.  

Tonquinto, also of St. Rose, is booked with crimes of theft, resisting an officer with injury, and illegal possession of cocaine .1 gram. 

The officer who was struck suffered minor injuries
