A 37-year-old Mississippi man was killed early Thursday in a crash on the southbound span of the Causeway.
The victim was driving a pickup truck that was struck from behind by a car around 2:30 a.m. The truck crashed into a guardrail and part of the protective barrier went through the windshield of the truck.
The driver of the car, a 26-year-old Covington resident, has been charged with vehicular homicide. She allegedly had a blood alcohol level of nearly 3 times the legal limit. Authorities say it was believed to be her third such offense within the past year and that her license had been suspended through January of 2018.
The crash occurred about 3 miles from Metairie and took out some 100 feet of guardrail.
