Newman Student Charged With Making Threat

A 15-year-old student at the Isidore Newman School has been arrested for allegedly posting a threat of violence on Snapchat on Wednesday that led to the cancellation of classes on Thursday and parent-teacher conferences that had been scheduled on Friday.

A photograph posted on the social media site showed several guns and included the statement, "Don't come to school tomorrow."

The teenager has been charged with the felony crimes of terrorizing, intimidation and interference in the operation of a school.

As the investigation progressed, NOPD detectives located the juvenile at his residence where he was arrested. A search warrant was obtained and three rifles and one shotgun were located inside the home.

The weapons, which matched those in the photo displayed online, were owned by the teen's father.
