LaPlace student killed in Airline Highway crash

Louisiana State police are investigating a fatal accident that killed a LaPlace high school student.

The accident happened on Airline Highway near Gramercy where many have been fighting for a guard rail for years.

Investigators do not know why a Ford focus driven by 17-year-old Evan Simoneaux veered off the northbound side Airline Highway and into a bayou Sunday morning around 10 a.m.

State police are conducting toxicology tests.

Simoneaux was a standout student at St. Charles Catholic School where many students are saddened by the loss.

This accident happened on a stretch of Airline Highway that still lacks guardrails while other sections of Airline toward Saint Rose have them.

This is not the first fatality along this stretch of road.
