14-Year-Old Gravely Injured In Skateboard Crash

A 14-year-old boy was "gravely" injured Monday night when he was struck by a car while riding a skateboard in Metairie.

It happened shortly before 7 p.m. at the intersection of West Metairie Road and North Starrett.

The 29-year-old driver of an Infinity G-35 was westbound on West Metairie when she struck the boy.  She reportedly told police she hit something in the roadway but didn't know what it was until she stopped and spotted the boy in a neighboring canal.

Several citizens jumped in to render aid to the boy who was rushed to the University Medical Center.
