JPSO investigating officer-involved shooting in Terrytown

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating an officer-involved shooting.

It happened happened around 1:30 p.m at a Shell Station near Terry Parkway and the Westbank Expressway in Terrytown.

A spokesman for the JPSO says officers were doing surveillance on a vehicle that had been parked at the gas station when a black two-door vehicle approached the parked vehicle.

The people inside both cars began interacting. It was then that an officer approached the vehicles.

Police say the deputy saw a weapon inside the black car and attempted to detain the driver. The car then backed up toward the officer.

The deputy fired at the driver striking him in the shoulder and back. The driver and his passenger fled.

Officers attempted to follow the car, but lost sight of it once the car turned on Stumpf Blvd.

Officers eventually ended up at the intersection of Cedarwood and Wright Avenue where the car attempted to jump over a canal, but landed in it instead.

The driver of the car, identified as Ryan Jackson of Gretna, was taken to University Medical Center in New Orleans. The passenger, identified as 21-year-old Lance Stevens, sustained minor injuries from the crash.
