N.O. Firefighters Express "No Confidence" In Chief

About 20 New Orleans' firefighters gathered Saturday outside the fire station on Decatur Street to criticize NOFD Superintendent Tim McConnell and express "no confidence" in the chief.

The president of the Firefighters Association, Nick Felton, says association members conducted the no confidence vote months ago but they decided to make the results public after a few firefighters were deployed when the Battle of Liberty Place monument was removed from the foot of Iberville Street.

"We are tired of him asking us to perform tasks that we are not trained for," Felton said. "We need new leadership, that's why we're here," he added.

Felton had complained earlier in the week about firefighters being dressed in bulletproof vests and military-style helmets during their assignment to the removal project.

The city says the firefighters were there for "safety" reasons and were not involved in the actual removal of the monument.
