Report: City Can Do Much More To Reduce Felony Crime Spike

A new report says the New Orleans city government shares responsibility for allowing a spike in felony crimes.

The non profit Metropolitan Crime Commission's report said serious understaffing within the ranks of the New Orleans Police Department is hampering the force's ability to maintain order.

The report directly links the police personnel shortage to Mayor Landrieu's hiring freeze back in 2010 and the feeble recruitment efforts since the freeze was lifted two years later.
