House Majority Whip Steve Scalise is improving.
Doctors at MedStar Washington Hospital Center upgraded Scalise's condition to "fair" from "serious" Wednesday, adding he continues to make progress and is beginning "an extended period of healing and rehabilitation."
The Louisiana Republican is recovering from a near-fatal gunshot wound from a gunman who opened fire at a Virginia baseball field where the GOP team was practicing for a charity baseball game.
