Several new laws are in effect across the state of Louisiana.
One of the new laws amends the definition of "household member" in an effort to assist a victim in a domestic abuse situation. Another law lowers the fine for littering but allows more community service time for offenders.
Immediate family members are now legally qualified to purchase a firearm of a law enforcement officer who's been killed.
