State Lawmaker Abandoning Confederate Monument Measure

New Orleans Prepares To Remove More Civil War Monuments

A state lawmaker is abandoning a bill that would have made it harder to take down Confederate monuments in Louisiana.

Republican Representative Thomas Carmody told the USA Today Network he doesn't think there will be any statues left to protect, as the public seems intent on removing them all.

House Bill 71 would have required a local election before any military monument could be moved.
