Another hat could be going in the ring ahead of next year's election of a new Jefferson Parish sheriff.
Sources tell FOX 8 News that the department's long-time chief public information officer, John Fortunato, is going to retire this week. He'll then seek to succeed Newell Normand as sheriff.
Normand recently retired, with Joseph Lopinto taking over on an interim basis and planning to seek the post on a permanent basis.
