Louisiana is ranked as the fourth poorest state in the nation

That's the conclusion of a just released report from 24/7 Wall Street. It says the typical household in the state has earnings of just over $45,000 a year. The study also found that one in every five residents of Louisiana lives below the poverty line, the second highest of any state.

Mississippi is ranked as the poorest state in the nation with the poverty rate at almost 23 percent.
