Landrieu Fights To Keep FEMA Dollars

Mayor Mitch Landrieu is continuing efforts to make sure the city doesn't have to give back two-billion-dollars received from FEMA for infrastructure repairs following Hurricane Katrina.

The Advocate reports he was in Washington yesterday to meet with Homeland Security officials.

An inspector general's report released in July recommended FEMA take back the award for road and underground pipe damage since there was evidence the city's infrastructure was "decrepit" before the extensive flooding from levee failures.
