An adjunct professor at LSU is sharing this year's Nobel Prize in Physics.

He's Rainer Weiss, who along with two professors emeriti with the California Institute of Technology were honored yesterday by Sweden's Royal Academy of Sciences for the first direct detection of gravitational waves.

The waves are caused by violent events in deep space and were first predicted by Albert Einstein nearly a century ago.
