Former Democratic Congressman William Jefferson of New Orleans is being ordered released from prison after serving only five years of a 13-year sentence on corruption charges.
A federal judge in Virginia ordered his immediate release Wednesday after seven of the ten charges he was convicted of were tossed out on appeal. They included soliciting bribes to promote African business interests in the U.S., wire fraud and money laundering.
