New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu is still taking criticism after failing to return to the city immediately when heavy rains and pump failures August 5th resulted in extensive flooding.
The Advocate reports that text exchanges with local officials and the governor showed Landrieu was intent on staying in Aspen, Colorado where he was attending a national security leadership conference. His staff texted him Saturday night, urging him to take a flight home Sunday morning because of the flooding situation.
Landrieu did not return until Monday, August 7th.
