A New Orleans Police officer was shot and killed early Friday morning in New Orleans East.
FOX 8 reports the officer was patrolling in the area of Tower Lane and Lake Forest when he noticed something suspicious, according to NOPD Supt. Michael Harrison. When the officer got out of his vehicle, the suspect opened fire and the unnamed victim returned fire.
Both were hit. The officer collapsed while the gunman fled to a nearby apartment complex. He eventually surrended to authorities and is being treated at a local hospital. The shooter, believed to be a 30-year-old male, will be charged once he is released.
