Prosecutors Weighing Whether To Retry Ex-Congressman

The question of whether federal prosecutors will retry former Louisiana Congressman William Jefferson on seven counts tossed by a judge in Virginia is still being weighed.

In any case, they've asked for an additional 60 days to review the matter.

The Advocate reports that even if Jefferson isn't retried on the vacated crimes he was accused of, he could still wind up back in prison depending on how the judge resentences him on the crimes he remains convicted of.

He was released last week after serving five years of a 13-year sentence.
