Free-agent forward Josh Smith agreed to a contract with the New Orleans Pelicans, multiple outlets reported on Thursday.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed for Smith, who will fill the extra roster spot available via the injury hardship exception. The Pelicans qualified for the exception because four players have missed at least three consecutive games.
All-Star forward Anthony Davis sustained a left knee injury in Tuesday's road loss to the Portland Trail Blazers and is questionable to play in Thursday's road game versus the Sacramento Kings.
Smith last played in the NBA in the 2015-16 season, splitting his time between the Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Clippers. The 31-year-old has since played overseas and in three preseason games against NBA teams in training camp with Maccabi Haifa of the Israeli Basketball Premier League.
Smith has averaged 14.6 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists during his career with the Atlanta Hawks, Detroit Pistons, Rockets and Clippers.
