Hundreds of convicted criminals are pouring onto the streets of Louisiana today.
The Advocate reports the release of more than 1,900 prisoners serving time for non-violent offenses began at midnight Tuesday. It's part of a comprehensive criminal justice package that addresses the state's incarceration rate, the highest in the nation.
The rollback in inmate numbers is expected to save the state $262 million over the next ten years.
