DOE Awards Millions To Recruit, Train Teachers In New Orleans

A lot of money is going to be spent over the next three years to bolster the number of teachers coming out of New Orleans.

The U.S. Department of Education is awarding close to $13 million to a half-dozen universities and nonprofit groups in New Orleans for the purpose of recruiting and training 900 teachers by 2020.

Leading the initiative is Xavier University that will receive $3 million to help fund the Norman C. Francis Teacher Residency.
