New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu is back in the Big Easy following a meeting Thursday with U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Senator John Kennedy.
The topic was the Department of Justice finding that New Orleans is a sanctuary city because it is seen as a haven for undocumented immigrants.
Sessions wants the city to notify immigration at least 48 hours before illegal immigrants are released from jail and wants enforcement agents permitted to interview them while they are in the city's custody.
The DOJ has threatened to withhold millions of dollars in criminal justice grants for alleged non-compliance with federal law.
