Civil service hearing into allegations of wrongdoings in Covington Fire Dep

A civil service hearing into allegations of wrongdoing against the chief of Covington Fire District 12 focused on an alleged affair and theft.

Chief Stephen Krentel, who took three months off after his wife was found fatally shot in their burned-out home, is being accused of intimidating those who spoke ill of him.

The allegations were brought forward by firefighter Tom Williamson who testified Monday at the hearing.

Williamson said Krentel has placed Fire district 12 in danger of litigation due to his ongoing affair with a subordinate.

Krentel has admitted to the affair. Williamson also testified that Krentel stole two air conditioning units. Krentel has labeled these allegations baseless. He is expected to testify at the meeting.
