Kenner Police arrested a man who allegedly ran over another man after a fight outside of a restaurant.
Jose Mejia-Juarez, 31, was arrested Monday and charged with second-degree battery with injury, hit and run driving with injury, and driving with no license.
Officers said the fight happened outside of El Noa Noa Restaurant and Bar in the 3600 block of Williams Blvd.
When officers arrived, they discovered a 46-year-old Hispanic male victim with severe injuries.
An investigation revealed that Mejia-Juarez was involved in a verbal altercation with the victim, which escalated when he pushed the victim to the ground, and then struck him several times with his fist, investigators said.
Mejia-Juarez then entered his vehicle, at which time the victim attempted to take a photo of Mejia-Juarez’s license plate with his cell phone, at which time Mejia-Juarez placed his vehicle in reverse and attempted to run over the victim.
Having missed, Mejia-Juarez then placed his vehicle in drive, accelerated, and intentionally struck the victim with the front of his vehicle, at which time Mejia-Juarez fled.
Police said Mejia-Juarez was later arrested when he returned to the scene and admitted that he had struck the victim.
The victim was transported to University Hospital where he was diagnosed to have sustained a compound fracture to the right leg, broken ribs, and facial and head lacerations. He is in stable condition.
At the time of this press release, Mejia-Juarez remains in custody. His immigration status is also under investigation.
