Firefighters battle 2-alarm fire in Treme, save 2 dogs

Firefighters battle a two-alarm fire at a shotgun duplex in the Treme area Wednesday afternoon.

No injuries were reported.

The New Orleans Fire Department received a 911 call about a fire in the 2300 block of Gov. Nicholls St. just after 12:30 p.m.

A wood-framed, duplex with thick black smoke spewing from the rear of the house.

Taking into account the possibility of persons trapped and the close proximity of occupied exposures, a second-alarm was called for shortly after arrival.

A couple escaped the residence where the fire originally started. Firefighters removed two dogs from the neighboring residence.

Fourteen NOFD units carrying forty-three Fire Operations personnel were used to bring this incident under control at 1:04 p.m.
