A woman was hospitalized Wednesday after her car hit a gas line and went into a Metairie canal. Police initially said she was rear-ended by another driver but have since recanted that. They don't believe any other cars were involved and are unsure why the woman crashed.
The woman was driving on West Esplanade when near the corner of Chateau. The woman was safely extricated and taken to a hospital. The extent of her injuries in not known.
Witnesses say there are often crashes in the area due to the U-turn near Chateau
