7 evacuated, father, son killed in Metairie fourplex fire

The Jefferson Parish Fire Department is on the scene of a fire at a fourplex in Metairie. 

They have had 10 units respond to the blaze on Orion Street after getting the call just before 3 a.m. Thursday. 

It took the department about five minutes to get on to the scene where one apartment of a two-story fourplex was on fire.

About five minutes later, a second alarm was called in to help get the fire under control. 

Crew were able to contain the fire 30 minutes later.

Seven people who lived in the fourplex were evacuated without injuries, but two men who lived inside the apartment where the fire started were found dead,according to Chief Dave Tibbets. 

Tibbets said his men tried to rescue the victims despite the high risk. None of the firefighters were injured during the rescue, according to Tibbets. 

There’s no cause of death or identities for those two victims at this time.  According to Tibbets, the victims were a 82 year-old man and his 56 year-old son.
