FOX 8: UMC Unveils New Primary Care Facility

(WVUE/FOX 8) University Medical Center in New Orleans unveiled a brand new primary care facility Thursday morning.

Health officials said the new center will fill a medical hole in the community. More than 30 rooms will soon be open to patients. UMC said improving access to primary care is one of their major priorities.

The new primary care center is a major milestone for them.

Data showed that Orleans Parish is one of several parishes in the state designated as a health professional shortage area, meaning there is a lack of physical, dental and mental health services compared to the population.

They hope the new 14,000 square foot facility will attract patients for checkups rather than first seeing them in the emergency room.
