The four-member board of St. Tammany Fire District 12 is opting to open a full investigation into complaints against Fire Chief Steve Krentel.
The panel voted in favor of the probe yesterday and plans to hire special counsel to handle the matter.
Accusations against Krentel include having an affair with an employee, intimidating subordinates and taking fire equipment for his personal use.
The sheriff's department is still investigating the shooting of Krentel's wife earlier this year, her body found in the couple's burning home.
