Governor John Bel Edwards is offering up his ideas for addressing an expected $1 billion shortfall in the state budget.

The coming red ink is due in large part to a temporary one-cent state sales tax that expires in June.

Edwards is proposing the compression of income tax brackets for individuals and lifting numerous exemptions to the state sales tax, including that for cable TV services.

He's expected to call the legislature into special session this February to deal with the budget mess.
