You will notice a new permanent fixture in Jackson Square and a gift to honor our city's 300th birthday.

It's a six-foot white marble sculpture of Pope John Paul II that weighs several thousand pounds. It was blessed by Pope Francis in Vatican City late last year and also blessed by Archbishop Gregory Aymond yesterday during a ceremony outside St. Louis Cathedral.

Pope John Paul II became the only sitting pope to visit New Orleans in September 1987.
