A group of Louisiana senators from both sides of the political aisle is urging Governor John Bel Edwards to call the legislature into special session this month to deal with the state's budget crisis.
The senators say the state gains nothing by waiting.
Edwards, a Democrat, has previously said he would order the special session if, and when, Republican leaders in the House come up with a plan to address the state's expected $1 billion shortfall come July 1st.
The governor is still conferring with House Speaker Taylor Barras in an effort to find common ground in solving the budget mess.
